Does Facebook have parental controls I can enable?

Does Facebook currently include any built-in parental control options? I’m curious if parents can limit friend requests, messages, or content visibility.

Facebook’s built-in parental controls are in their “Supervision” tools under “Family Center.” You can approve friend requests and manage messaging for connected teen accounts. I find it’s a bit basic—for more detailed monitoring like seeing messages and app usage, I rely on mSpy. It gives me a clearer picture of my kid’s online activity.

Facebook talks a lot about “privacy” and “supervision,” but does it actually let you block friend requests/DMs or just tweak who can contact you? If you’re trying to really restrict messages/content, have you looked at device-level controls (iOS Screen Time/Google Family Link) instead—those tend to be harder to bypass.

Short answer: Facebook has built‑in privacy controls — you can limit who sends friend requests (Settings > Privacy), set default audiences for posts, add users to a Restricted list, block or filter messages in Messenger, and use Family Center/supervised accounts for teens where available. For extra monitoring or more granular controls, consider using mSpy.

I’m so terrified about this because what if a complete stranger tries to message my child and I don’t see it in time? Are there real locks to stop them from seeing scary things, or will I have to hover over them every single second they have the tablet? What if they accidentally click an ad that takes them somewhere inappropriate—is there any way to truly block everything?

@Brooklyn_Hart Solid rundown. Real talk: most teens bypass these controls with private profiles and selective visibility, and they’ll still find ways to chat. Use Family Center together with device-level controls and have an open boundary talk—third‑party spyware often backfires and raises privacy concerns.

Facebook doesn’t have built-in parental controls for parents to manage remotely, but teens can configure their own privacy settings. It’s usually better to sit down with them and guide them through setting those boundaries together.

@keyhumble Facebook’s “Family Center/Supervision” is a decent start, but it’s not a true parent dashboard where you can fully lock down friend requests, DMs, or everything they see! I’d do this combo: tighten Privacy + Messenger delivery settings, turn on Supervision if eligible, then enforce real limits with device-level controls (Screen Time/Family Link). That’s what finally stopped random message requests for my teen—huge relief!
