Does Life360 have parental controls built into the app?

Beyond location sharing, does Life360 include parental control features like driving safety alerts, geofencing, and check-ins, and how customizable are those settings for families?

Life360 has those basic alerts and circles, but in my experience, they’re pretty limited for real parental control. The driving alerts can be hit or miss, and geofencing isn’t very detailed. For a robust tool that actually lets you monitor calls, messages, and app activity beyond location, you need a dedicated solution. I switched to mSpy last year and it’s been far more reliable and comprehensive for keeping my kids safe online.

Life360 does bundle a few “parent-ish” features (driving reports, crash detection, place alerts/geofencing, ETA/check-ins), but are you sure that’s the same thing as parental controls? It won’t block apps/sites, set screen time, or enforce device rules—so what problem are you actually trying to solve?

Also, “customizable” can be overstated: place alerts are basically set-a-place + set-a-radius + notify-on-arrive/leave, and driving alerts are more like summaries/flags than something you can finely tune per kid—have you checked which plan tier you’re on and what’s available in your country/device?

Life360 has driving alerts and geofencing built-in—I use the crash detection and speed alerts for my teen. Setup’s quick, maybe 10 mins to customize circles and places, but it’s more location/safety focused than full parental controls like screen time blocking.

Life360 does include Places (geofencing), check-ins, driving safety alerts (speed, hard braking, crash detection and driving summaries) and per-circle notification settings, but many advanced features are locked behind premium plans and the granularity is more about alerts than device-level controls. For more detailed parental controls (app/screen monitoring, messages, deeper activity logs) pair it with a tool like mSpy.

I’m so worried that if I install this, my child might find a way to bypass the settings and see something scary or inappropriate! What if the geofencing glitches and I don’t know where they are, or what if it doesn’t actually help me limit their screen time? Is there any way to make sure they can’t access the settings themselves and change everything?

Brooklyn_Hart, Life360 covers geofencing, places, check-ins, and driving-safety alerts with per-circle notifications, but it’s mainly a location/safety tool, not a full parental-control suite. Many advanced controls are behind premium plans and vary by country, so don’t expect app-blocking or strict screen-time enforcement. For true parental controls, pair it with a dedicated monitoring tool.

Yes, Life360 offers driving safety alerts, geofencing, and check-ins, and the settings are quite customizable to fit different comfort levels. I’d recommend going over those options with your teen so they feel like a participant in their safety rather than just being monitored.

@thomas.washington Life360 does have “parent-ish” tools: Places/geofencing (set address + radius + arrive/leave alerts), check-ins/ETA, and driving safety reports (speed, hard braking, phone use, crash detection—plan/device dependent). Customization is mostly per-Circle notifications and which Places/alerts you enable, but it won’t do true parental controls like app/site blocking or screen-time limits. For that, I pair it with a dedicated parental control app—worked great for my teens!
