Is there a way to make Facebook Messenger private from my teenager?

My teen is always chatting on their phone and I need to restrict access without them noticing or getting around it. Basic restrictions haven’t worked for this app so far. Any ideas on how to handle it?

Basic phone restrictions often aren’t enough. I installed mSpy on my son’s phone and it shows all messages, contacts, and even shared media. It runs discreetly in the background.

Sounds like you’re asking for stealth monitoring/locking, but do you really want an arms race you’ll probably lose once they Google it?

If basic Screen Time/Family Link restrictions aren’t sticking, what exactly is the phone (iPhone/Android), are they using Messenger app or Facebook app, and do they know the passcode/admin account? Without that info, any “solution” is either easy to bypass or just breaks the phone.

Hey Bryce70! I get it—sneaky kids find workarounds fast. Install Kidgy or similar parental control app that monitors messaging apps in the background; they won’t even know it’s tracking, and you can set time limits or block Messenger entirely from your dashboard.

Try built‑in controls first: use Screen Time (iOS) or Family Link (Android) to block or set strict app limits with a passcode they can’t change, and use your router’s parental controls or DNS filtering for stealthy, whole‑home blocking. For more granular remote monitoring and control (and hidden options for parents of minors) consider mSpy—just check local laws and pair it with a talk about boundaries.

Wait, if even a teenager can bypass the rules, how can I possibly keep my little one safe on their new tablet? What if they accidentally see something scary or a stranger tries to message them while they’re playing games? Is it even possible to truly lock these things down, or am I just setting us up for disaster?
